Sundance is as much a social organization as it is an outings club and many friendships have begun on Sundance outings.   “Metro” outings are those that are conducted within the NYC Metropolitan area.

The Metro Team via its outings, affords opportunities for Sundancers to get together year round in a casual way between other outdoor-oriented events. Its focus is primarily social and/or cultural.  This Team is a group of Sundancers who a few times a year to plan for, calendar, and coordinate Metro events.

As Sundance is based in New York City, there are many opportunities to explore these pursuits. It can involve a trip to the Metropolitan Museum, a walking tour of SoHo, dinner at a Peruvian restaurant, a trip to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens or a birding walk within the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Preserve, in Queens, NY.

What is a typical Metro outing?
Metro Team outings are quite varied. There is really no "typical" Metro outing. It can be outdoors or indoors. Outings can involve looking at the Matisse paintings at the Museum of Modern Art, gathering around a pickle vendor's stall on a walking tour of the Lower East Side, or lounging on a blanket in Bryant Park watching How to Marry a Millionaire.

What do I need for a Metro Outing?
You need just basic social skills, an ability to enjoy yourself, and a working watch so you won't be late.

How many people typically go on a Metro outing?
The number of participants can range from 4 to 50, but most Metro outings attract between 8-15 Sundance members.

How can I find out more information about a Metro outing?
Sundance publishes a monthly newsletter, Crosswinds, which lists upcoming outings. Each outing has two co-leaders. Contact the outing leaders for more information about a particular outing or the Metro Team captains for general information about metro outings.
