Activities Available in Sundance
Sundance began in 1980 as a hiking club, but as member interests diversified other activities were added. Current Sundance activity “teams” include Backpacking, Camping, Biking, Boating, Hiking, Horseback Riding, Metro/Cultural, Skiing/Snowboardingand Skating.
Teams are used to organize activities into categories, each with their own leader(s), but all Sundance activities are non-competitive, friendly, and welcoming. Sundance provides a wonderful avenue for picking up new sports and hobbies, with outings offered at levels from beginner to expert by a range of experienced club members.
Each team has one or two team captains whose responsibilities include promoting leadership for their activities, scheduling, and conducting planning meetings for the purpose of coordinating upcoming outings.
Sundance has approximately 500 members in the New York City metropolitan area and beyond. Some Sundancers are interested in many different activities while others focus on one or two.
Sundance is an all-volunteer organization that depends on its members to make things happen.
